Alternatives to INH chemoprophylaxis.

چکیده
Also there is some concern about efficacy of rifampicin as single drug prophylaxis in contacts where the source is proved to be excreting INH resistant bacilli. A case of probable rifampicin failure in such situation is described(3) and hence recommendation for chemophophylaxis of confirmed INH resistance vary from rimampicin alone or rifampicin with ethambutol; both regimens for 9 months(4). INH and thiacetazone for chemoprophylaxis, cannot be recommended as thiacetazone is a less potent drug and have more side effects and a higher primary resistance in Asians including Indians(5).

Use of isoniazid chemoprophylaxis in renal transplant recipients.
BACKGROUND The use of isoniazid (INH) as chemoprophylaxis for tuberculosis (TB) in renal transplant recipients has not been widely studied or reported from a country where TB is endemic. We are reporting here the results of the largest ever-reported randomized, prospective study of the use of INH in renal transplant recipients. METHODS Four hundred consecutive live related renal transplant re...

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of isoniazid (INH)-related hepatotoxicity in patients with rheumatologic diseases receiving tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) antagonists along with a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD). MATERIAL AND METHODS We have retrospectively evaluated 87 patients receiving anti-TNFα agents who were followed up between June 2005 and F...
متن کاملIsoniazid liver injury during chemoprophylaxis in children.
The incidence of INH-associated liver injury was evaluated in 239 children aged between 9 and 14 years, who were receiving 300 mg INH/day for tuberculosis prophylaxis. Serum SGOT and SGPT levels were determined before INH administration and at 4-weekly intervals thereafter. Levels of both enzymes were raised during the first 3 months of treatment in 18 (7.5%) children, while in 23 (9.6%) childr...

Tuberculosis is one of the most significant causes of infectious morbidity and mortality worldwide and has been an important threat for healthcare workers (HCW) for decades. Although the tuberculin skin test (TST) is less expensive, available and a preferred diagnostic tool for latent tuberculosis infection in most TB-prevalent settings, limitations inclusive of false positivity, cross reactivi...
متن کاملChildren Contacting with Smear Positive Tuberculosis Patients
DEAR EDITOR, I read the recent publication on children contacting with smear positive tuberculosis patients with great interest. Aminzadeh et al. concluded that the ‘Strategy of six months of supervised isonicotinylhydrazine (INH) chemoprophylaxis is successful, particularly in children who are at high risk to progress to the disease, following exposure. I agree with the usefulness and effectiv...
